How To Find The Right Wholesale Supplier For You
According to Statista, the revenue of the wholesale trade industry in the UK is estimated to reach 854.9 billion pounds in 2022! This fast growing sector is attracting more and more business & non-business minded people alike to reap the benefits- especially with the rise of e-tailers! From wholesale kitchenware to clothing, cosmetics and more there are so many avenues to go into.
What is a wholesale pound line supplier?
Wholesalers, like us at Rysons, specialise in the import & export of wholesale goods. They are the in-between stopping points from products being made to being bought by retailers (to then be sold to consumers). Wholesalers buy goods in bulk quantities at a discounted price before selling, making a profit whilst doing so. We have a great blog explaining this in more depth here.
Where can I find one?
- Trade shows: shows are great for finding suppliers, customers and gaining loads of industry knowledge! Find out more here.
- Internet search: the internet has all the information needed to make an informed choice on your supplier.
- Social Media: you might see an advertisement, or one of the wholesalers products and think that that supplier is the one for you.
- Word of mouth: you might have friends already involved in this industry who may recommend wholesalers. Be careful though as what works for them may not work for you!
- Business Directories: this good old fashioned way is great as a great selection of businesses relevant to you are all in one place for you to choose from.
What makes a good pound line supplier?
- Frequent restocks: you do not want to be waiting around for products to restock as this will decrease your customers loyalty due to being unreliable.
- Flexible negotiations: once you have built a relationship with your supplier, you can begin talks of deals, discounts and more!
- Good rating: people are more likely to buy from a business that has good reviews- it shows the business is reliable.
- Good prices: make sure their prices are decent and fair compared to other businesses.
- Good customer service: you want a supplier that is accommodating in helping you find the right products for you, the best deals and helping to fix any problems.
- Fast delivery: this is important as you want to be able to restock quickly to get your orders out!
- Shameless self promo: check this article out on benefits of being a Rysons trade customer.
Who does a wholesale pound line supplier sell to?
- Retailers: a person or business selling goods to the consumer in small quantities e.g. B&M Bargains.
- Etailers: the same as a retailer but online e.g. amazon. Check out this blog explaining selling products as an e-tailer.
- General public: although it is less common, individuals of the public also buy in bulk from wholesalers to get great discounts. Fun fact: did you know that the general public can buy from Costco? There are 2 types of accounts- trade & individual.
- Dropshippers: similar to retailers, however different in the fact that they do not hold their stock themselves. Orders are instead completed fully by the wholesaler. Plus the seller does not have to keep stock or spend the money on storage space.
Things to think about when choosing a wholesale supplier:
- Location: are they close to you? Will you get your goods delivered promptly? If there is an issue are they able to rectify the problem with good time? Are you able to visit the suppliers showroom to view products in real life?
- Goods: think about exactly what you want to be selling. Do the suppliers have a good variety of products if you want to expand? Do they have stock of the products you’re interested in?
- Price: are they in your budget? Some wholesalers have a minimum spend price, delivery fee prices etc. Make sure you know all of this before having your heart set on a particular supplier!
